The Hong Kong Product Design Makeathon came to a Splendid End!
You are here
The Hong Kong Product Design Makeathon ended fruitfully last Saturday (13th May, 2017). The competition was hosted by The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, DTSL company and sponsored by littleBits. The aims of the competition is to raise students’ interests towards product design, to encourage students’ creativity, and to demonstrate students’ learnings in STEM.
The competition received over 60 applications from local primary and secondary schools. The competition required students to commit in the whole product life cycle, from brainstorming, to prototyping and ultimately coming up with a functional product and a product proposal for the judges to grade upon. The HKPDM organized a total of 6 free workshops for students to participate, and assigned a PolyU student mentor to every participating team. During the competition, student mentors exchanged ideas with participants on how to improve their designs and guided them to use appliances provided by the university to create their final product. From the experience, students thoroughly understood the product life cycle in practice and demonstrated their innovative ideas through their designs. Many of the participants’ design were truly mesmerizing and jaw-dropping, and were all solid evidence of students’ inter-subject learning.
